This is more work, but you might consider using debootstrap to install a
Debian Sid (unstable) chroot. You can  then install the "Sid" Audacity in
that chroot and use it from there. A good howto is at

I've done this to play with Sid :) I have several apps running on Dapper
from this chroot, including deluge-torrent and the audacious music player.
