Added note: I've posted the following on the mozilla thunderbird &
firefox support groups. Perhaps someone there will help to figure out a
solution:
Apologies for cross posting to both mozilla.support.firefox and
mozilla.support.thunderbird groups however this problem appears to be
related to interaction between TB and FF.
This problem is (perhaps) linux related and occurs on Ubuntu Dapper
6.0.6 and Edgy 6.10. FF 1.5.0.10 & TB 1.5.0.9
Problem:
When in Thunderbird, a user clicks on an https link in an email or
newsgroup message, example: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ or
https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-users. If Firefox is
not running, then such a click causes Firefox to start, but it yields
the error message:
Unexpected response from server
Firefox doesn't know how t communicate with the server
o Check to make sure your system has the Personal Security Manager
installed.
o This might be due to a non-standard configuration on the server.
Try Again
It doesn't matter if you then manually past the https link into FF and
try to excecute, the result is the same.
If Firefox is closed, then restarted, while TB is kept open and then the
TB https url is clicked, the https url is properly interpreted and the
https webpage is loaded in FF.
If Firefox is first loaded, then Thunderbird, and FF is *kept open*,
clicking on the https link in TB works.
So it seems to be a problem in the process of TB opening FF.
The problem is repeatable & bugs have been filed via Ubuntu:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/89023
also
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2238853
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/57923
Anyone here seen anything similar and/or have a suggestion/solution on
how to resolve the problem?
Note: I've not *yet* uninstalled the Ubuntu versions of FF or TB and
reinstalled directly from Mozilla; that will be my next step but thought
that I'd check here first.
