How to erase Linux?

If there's personal info on the drive, you may also want to "shred" it,
something you can do from a Live CD. (I see Ubuntu has it, but I always
do it from Knoppix.)

The "shred" command overwrites your drive a bunch of times (25, by
default), and I'm guessing would protect your data from everyone but
government intelligence agencies such as the NSA.
