So Dell may now include Linux in some form in their computers.

This would legitmate the companies who already offer Linux in their
computers and possibly wake up those companies that so far have
neglected Linux user needs. Certainly Dell would need to convince those
companies who supply components for Dell's computers.

Linux users have been vociferously demanding this move by Dell for quite
some time and now have been acknowledged as being a legitimate reason
for Dell offering Linux, not necessarily as a 100% changeover but as an
alternative to MS Windows and possibly both Linux and MS Windows.

Imagine what would happen if Dell went 100% Linux. Which distribution
would be Dell's choice? The various distributions have their supporters
with UBUNTU seemingly leading the pack.

Imagine, also, what would happen when users, both private and
commercial, who have years of experience with MS Windows, where most of
the setup work is done by clicking on icons, are confronted by a system
where a large share of the operations necessitate uttering arcane
incantations far more mysterious than the DOS
of years back.

Look at the traffic on this UBUNTU list and imagine what it would be
like if there was a sudden surge of new users. Is the list ready for
this or would a second list for absolute beginners be needed?
