! tells the shell to RUN the LAST command that matches.

To search, use CTRL-R, then type what you are searching for.  This will
find the most recent matching entry.  To search for previous
occurrences, just press CTRL-R to scroll through the history.
You can then edit the command, before running it (hit ENTER to run the
command)
