How to open Micrsoft's so-called Open XML Format

Not really.  Send it back and tell them to use
http://sourceforge.net/projects/odf-converter/ to install a OpenXML->ODF
converter, because ODF is an open and multi-party ISO standard.  Note
that Microsoft has deliberately made this converter hard to use (doesn't
integrate into Open or Save boxes, etc.).
