newbie problem - booting from cd

Hi,
I am new to linux. I have a windows XP pc. 
I have just succeeded in burning the 7.04 version onto a cd. I have  checked with md5 and the downloaded version was OK. I then tried to boot from the cd. I got the following message on the screen :
Out of Range
Set Monitor to
1280x1024 at 60 Hz
After this, the pc just hung up.
There does not seem to be anything in the documentation to help me.
Please let me know how I can get around this problem and get on to trying out Linux.
