It should be doable somehow, it's just a matter of how complicated it
might be. gnome-volume-manager uses pmount internally. The man page for
pmount mentions some features that might be usable for disabling
automounting:
"To prevent automatic mounting, pmount offers a locking mechanism"
"The mount will succeed if all of the following conditions are met:"
