Printer Not Recognized-Can't Install

I'm having a lot of difficulty with a fresh Ubuntu Feisty live CD install using Kubuntu-desktop. Dapper spoiled me and I left Debian for good. Also, lost my home directory on the install; on an extended part and couldn't figure out how to save it even with help. Here's the most serious one now:
My Epson Stylus CX5800F is recognized as a USB Mass Storage device which haven't seen since Deb Sid days and sorry, don't remember the solution.
Cups-127.0.0.1:631/admin(think that's right) or kde printer wizard wont install it because there are no USB drivers found. USB is shown in the printer wizard but not the device addresses. I have modprobed shpchp and pci_hotplug as they seemed related from long past memory; am not sure that was right to do.
I feel this is a hotplug or hal issue but don't now how to proceed or fix and don't want to do too much and mess it up more.
The lspci output for usb is:
00:07.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 USB (rev 01)
Happy to supply any more info needed. Any guidance most appreciated. Also have the cupsys and foomatic-db drivers installed including gimpprint, gutenprint and hpijs.
TIA,
