Trouble with Synaptic

This is just a compressed archive (like a ZIP file).  Most likely it
contains source code.

Synaptic does not install from source.  It downloads and installs Debian
packages from the Ubuntu repository.  What program are you trying to
install?

I tried double clicking on the Desktop icon which I understand unzips
the program and then tried the Synaptic search with the same results.
The program I downloaded is divifund-0.6.2.tar.gz.
