Hello again Jonathan,

If you click on the system menu, under preferences you will find an
entry called "Removable drives and media". If you load this up and click
on the multimedia tab, you can check the box  saying "Play audio CDs
when inserted". I'm not sure if VLC actually plays CDs, but you can put
whatever app in there.
