Hi folks,

Been a lurker here for ages and now with a fresh install of festy I've got a few questions.

Installed this fresh install on sunday 17-6-07
had some trouble with the IP settings (using cable modem) plugged straight into the ethernet card in my PC.

rebooted and it came right but today (2nd time started since install) my wife who can't use anything other than kubuntu (she can't use windows at all too confusing) LOL couldn't get net access.
tonight the samething and it took me a while to figure that i had no dns numbers.
also i noticed that the IP address and defaulted to the private range (eg 198.blah) I've updated my system via Adept and then used add & remove apps from the main KDe menu. had selected a number of apps to be installed from there. To the best of my knowledge they all got installed but today when i tried to update i got hit with a message saying someother app (eg apt-get or aptitude) was in use and i could view only.

To the left of the time clock i saw some icons and found a few apps i'd loaded and later closed sitting there. So i removed them and sure enough adapt and add & remove was sitting there.

I then removed them from the area and tried again.
1st Adept then add & remove still got an error message saying some app had control of the
    repositories!

How can i fix this??

why am i losing the IP network settings??

woundering if festy was such a good move now.

TIA

dave.
