Simple programming language anyone?

For graphical stuff you might consider GDL
[gnudatalanguage.sourceforge.net] (which is a free clone of the
popular scientific language IDL). Currently you probably need to build
from source [though it looks as if it's about to arrive in Gutsy as
there is a gdl directory in the repository but with nothing yet in it].
It's not complete yet -- no widgets for example -- but most important
stuff is there.
