Are you in fact looking for 3d desktop /effects/ as in Compiz or Beryl
or the 3ddesktop package which is a very different thing. If Beryl,
try:
http://wiki.beryl-project.org/index.php/Install/Ubuntu/Edgy/XGL
which is a tutorial for installing Beryl to your system and
configuring it on Edgy but it worked for my Feisty installation, too.
Compiz comes, I believe, with Feisty but has to be called, it isn't
'turned on' by default.
If it's the 3ddesktop package you want then just
<apt-get (or aptitude) install 3ddesktop> and, in a terminal run
<sudo 3ddeskd>
to start the daemon and then
<3ddesk>
to operate it. Arrow keys to switch, <Enter> to zoom in.
Incidentally, if you have Beryl installed and working you'll see only
one desktop when using 3ddesktop unless you've changed the default
desktop number in the configuration. The sides of the Beryl polygon
aren't really desktops in the traditional sense. You have to change
the setting for 'Number of Desktops' in the Beryl settings manager.
Then each desktop will have a polygon (Beryl 'cube') of its own.
