As far as I know there are two major things which obstruct this currently:

(1) There are supposedly possible problems with integrating ZFS into the
Linux kernel's VFS, however as far as I have read this would not be the
most difficult thing to overcome:

(2) ZFS license is incompatible with GPL, thus inclusion into the kernel
may never happen (except maybe by a clean room implementation, however,
SUN holds a lot of related patents).

Right now the only ZFS available for Linux is ZFS via fuse (available at
sf.net), but I have not (yet) tested it.
