vmware player and USB devices

I did install the printer driver, but Windows rebooted at the end of the
installation process. But the driver is there and all the software is
there. I reinstalled the driver to confirm that it is installed properly
and it didn't hang or reboot. The problem is I can't seem to get any
communication at all with any USB device. And unfortunately I have to
use Windows for my Dell 942 printer, since according to
linuxprinting.org there is no Linux driver for it. If this has changed
due to Dell preinstalling Ubuntu on some machines, let me know, because
that would be extremely great news.
