FireFox driving me NUTS !!!

No guarantees, but this might be worth a try: disable IPv6 in Firefox thus:

- type  about:config   in the URL bar
- type IPv6 in the search/filter field at the top
- you should see a line that says " network.dns.disableIPv6 "  - double
click the line to set it to "true"  ( obviously this is reversible if it
makes no difference)

Apparently some ISPs have strange, or *no* IPv6 configuration - this has
been known to help.  YMMV and all that...
