I have used ubuntu alot, and all of my computers that used 1024 x 768 
were fine, but some widescreen laptops i have needed extra setting's, 
for example my dell b130 15.4 inch 1280 x 800 needed the 915resolution 
package to work... 915resolution is for the certain  intel graphics 
cards... not nvida.
