Startup time of Firefox and Thunderbird

Hi,

I run firefox & thunderbird. Each one has about 5 to 6 add-ons 
installed. What displeases me is the startup time of these apps and 
sometimes thunderbird seems to hang, though it will revive after 10-15 
seconds. Is this a normal behaviour?
