Gaim setup issues

I used to have MSN and ICQ on windows and a hot mail account etc - now
everything is converted to Linux Anyone familiar with Gaim in Ubuntu or
suggest a better alternative?

What is the simpliest way to set this up and add buddies with hotmail
and then with ICQ?
