Howto setup internal postfix & mailx

Although I use Thunderbird on Feisty for regular email, I am trying to 
setup postfix and mailx for internal mail (only) such as error messages.

I have used apt-get install for postfix and mailx.

It seems I need at least two config files.
/etc/postfix/mail.cf	for postfix
and  ~/.mailrc		for mailx.

Could someone give me a simple starting point on these files?
