fan control

Hi all,

I was wondering which process normally controls the fan speed of my computer. 
I am assuming it is the acpi daemon. Is there any way that I configure that 
process? I would like to lower the temperatures for AC mode. I installed i8k 
(as I am stuck with a dell notebook) and that allowed me to do this kind of 
configuration, but it seems to be in competition with the other so that fan 
speed changes like crazy depending on which process just set it.
