hrm, that doesn't sound right.  it should just boot right to a Gnome 
desktop without asking for a username/password.  check your BIOS to see 
what the device boot order is and make sure the CDROM is before the hard 
drive.  otherwise there is probably a key you can hit (F12?) to popup a 
device boot menu when you first turn on your computer.
