nvidia settings for laptop

Hi all,

I have seen that some of you are nvidia-savvy.  
I'm running a laptop with an nvidia chipset and wondering how to make it work 
well with the dual-head config with an external monitor.  

I can configure X to do dual-head just fine.  What I'd like to overcome is the 
need to have the external monitor plugged in when X starts.  It seems like 
that is the only way for this config to work correctly.  Otherwise, I'm stuck 
in one-monitor mode.

Any ideas?
