Install problem

The "server edition" does not install X by default.

If you want a desktop/ graphical environment, you can do, for example

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

( or sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop    , for KDE , or
sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop            for xfce4 )

If you have already done that, or something similar, like installing a
window manager, xorg etc. , then that is a different question.

You did not mention having installed X, so I assume the above is what you
would need.
