Visioneer Onetouch 7300 driver problems

My visioneer Onetouch 7300 scanner is detected by name with the command
<scanimage -L>
which tells me:
"device `gt68xx:libusb:003:002' is a Visioneer OneTouch 7300 flatbed
scanner"
but neither sane nor any of the backends I've tried can access it.  I've
googled for a driver and all I've found tells me to get it from the
Visioneer installation CD /after/ I've installed it on Windows.  I
don't have any Windows installations and don't expect to ever have
one.  How may I get my scanner to work?
