"Failed to initialize HAL"-Rick

My hardware abstraction layer won't start upon booting up Ubuntu version 
7.04. I'm using GNOME desktop version 2.18.1. I can access the Internet, 
but that's it. I can't print, reinstall drivers, or all that fun stuff. 
My board is in good shape. It seems to have happened after upgrading to 
SeaMonkey version 1.1.2. Anyone out there with a similar experience?
