I'd use the i810 driver rather than the VESA one as well.wrote steve

Check that the BIOS is allocating enough ram to the embedded video card.
Set it to 8 or 16 meg (or whatever the higher setting is)
Then go back and do the dpkg-reconfigure routine again.

So Mr brian when i select 16 bit and reconfigure xserver it shows me my
login screen (which is unavailavable when i select 24 ) but it shows me my
desktop with 640x480 at 86hz
and no other option to choose from
