First, you need to make sure you have the right filename and the
library is in fact in the repos. Here is what I discover:

$ aptitude search dbase
p   acidbase

$ aptitude search pear
p   pearpc
- PowerPC architecture emulator
p   php-pear
- PEAR - PHP Extension and Application Repository
p   php4-pear
- PHP Extension and Application Repository (transitional package)
p   php4-pear-log
- Log module for PEAR
