Why is adding a new Ubuntu PC to an existing LAN such a pain?

Well, I'm pretty sure, then, that this is the problem.  It can't give your
devices a garry.org address until they actually ask for one (note, leases
expire and have to be renewed, so _eventually_ they'll all get a new lease
from DHCP, but it probably isn't set for a day or two).
