Acer Aspire AST180-ED380M can't connect to the net

Hey everyone,

I have primarily been an OS X for the last year, but I really prefer
Ubuntu. I can't get Ubuntu to see my network card so that I can
connect to the net. I have been a programmer for almost 20 years, but
I am still a Linux newbie.

Ubuntu installed properly and is available via Grub on startup.

What is the best strategy for figuring out how to get Ubuntu to see the net?
