Ubuntu Server 6.10 + I need desktop for basic purpose (Ubuntu/Xubuntu)

But tried with Ubuntu-desktop but failed..... I will post this on
ubuntu-users...still if any body could figure  out here what went wrong then
this would be gr8.....

$sudo apt-cdrom add
--> then I insert my ubuntu 6.10 server CD ..
$sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
---> install started and after some time I got following message..
90%[working][42950451.280000] Buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block
267956
Failed to Fetch cdrom:[Ubuntu
6.10_Edgy...]/pool/main/p/po-debconf/po-debconf_1.0.5_all.deb
MD5 Sum Mismatch
E: Unable to fetch some archive, maybe run apt-get update or try with
--fix-missing
