Screensaver password lock

I tried the kubuntu list and didn't generate much...

If I set up the screensaver to "Require password to stop" I don't get
the results I'm after.  That is, the screensaver starts but the screen
never locks.   It is as if I never selected the option.  I can lock
the screen and invoke the screensaver with the lock icon on the panel
or right clicking on the desktop.  So the ability is there, it just
doesn't work as expected.
