gnome session does not start anymore

This is annoying but not fatal.

You'll need to log in using the safe session or the emergency terminal
or even KDE. In the terminal window, type "ls -alrt" to get an idea of
files where changed most recently in your home directory. Try deleting
.gconfd/ and see if that fixes things. If not, try deleting .gconf/,
.gnome/, and .gnome2/. Also potential culprits are .*ICE* files.

All these files will be automatically generated with their default
values when you log in anew. You will lose some settings, such as your
Gnome panel configuration, but eventually you be able to log in
normally.
