Skype could be a convenient addition to my desktop, it once was. Unfortunately
I use it less and less due to my shying away from being part of the Skype
community at large for fear that I will be invited to use technology that I
don't have on my Linux client, video calling, SkypeCasts, sms messaging, or
whatever the new feature around the might be. Because I use it less Skype no
longer has a permanent place on my desktop. Because of this I am much less
likely to use any of the Skype chargable services like SkypeOut credit or buy
a SkypeIn number, things that I have done in the past.

My point is that Skype are loosing out on my custom. If Skype choose not to
help themselves provide a client that I feel I can use on my Linux box then
it would be they who are shooting themselves in their feet. According to the
Skype forum I'm not alone in reacting this way, which means the Linux
userbase could well be shrinking, making further Linux development even less
justifiable.
