I doubt that re-installing Ubuntu will change anything at all.
The card has been detected properly, so likely all you need to do
is load some driver to cater for the tape drive specifically (and put
it in /etc/modules so it gets loaded every time you boot).
Someone wrote to say he does have a SCSI tape drive, so he might be
able to shed some light. If not, google is probably your friend ;-)
