Sound detection for LAMP server

I recently installed Dapper LAMP server on a system that I previously
used as a desktop. As a desktop, the sound card was always detected and
worked perfectly for Ubuntu and other flavors.
I will be using this server to stream mp3 files with Icecast and MPD.
When I start MPD, it complains about not finding the sound card. I am
wondering if Dapper LAMP does not install sound support. If this is the
case, how can I get it installed?
The output follows:
/root at www:/etc/init.d# ./mpd restart
