Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect - Fixed

Well I'm cooking with gas. 
I ran the following command
sudo a2enmod php5

which then fixed the problem. I set up a php page, connected to mysql,
read for a table, displayed results etc. All Good!

I still have some issues with the fully qualified domain name, but will
do some reading on my own first.
