Serpentine trouble

I'm running Xubuntu Edgy on my IBM Thinkpad R60. I just installed Serpentine
to try and burn an audio CD, but when I open it up it says:
No recording drive found on your system, therefore some of Serpentine's
functionalities will be disabled.

I know for a fact that my optical drive is a DVD-ROM/CD-RW. Is there any
simple way to fix this?
