Yes, I use Google Earth and X-Plane, both require OpenGL.
And OpenGL will probably soon be used by everybody regardless of end
user applications anyway, as Gtk hence Gnome, are moving to it, and
of course OpenGL accelerated Window managers (regardless of eye candy)
are in the pipeline, maturing as we speak, and of course the X server
already uses acceleration. So the whole desktop stack will soon be
taking advantage of OpenGL, so even if you don't use any end user app
that require OpenGL, you will still need/want OpenGL acceleration.
