I am running the nvidia driver at a resolution of 2560x1024 :-)

Try re-installing/reconfigureing the nvidia driver.

If you use the nvidia .dep a "dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-glx" should be the 
  command you want, I think.

If you downloaded the binary from nvidia, just run the install again.

Now, I remember, I had to edit the xorg.conf file to get my 2 monitors 
running.
