Lost all CTRL+ALT keys

I've just been trying to log into a website and discovered that I can't
write a backslash (the 'windows' one). That means I've lost the 'at' in
emails addresses and lots of other things.

I went into 'System > Preferences > Keyboard > Layout' to make sure it
was correct, and that looks fine. Is this a problem with the GL Desktop
and compiz? Please help - I'm having to boot windows to do basic
things.... arrrgh!

Duncan
