Apt-get has been improved recently, it can now remove all unused
dependencies when un-installing a package, thanks to a new command line
option: "--auto-remove".
I noticed that it works even when the package has been installed
through Synaptic.

Indeed, a text UI would be great, but the current one is so horrible
and confusing that I never ever use it and find the command line much
easier. I guess that means a lot, because I am hardly a command line
fetishist. Making a user friendly text UI could be a great Google
Summer of Code project...
