Ubuntu Edgy & Laptop Compatibility

have edgy on a desktop pc I built myself & like it lots, no
compatibility issues. Thinking about purchasing a laptop pc to install
same, no dual boot just format for ubuntu 6.10 & install. researching
hardware compatibility looks like either IBM T model all Intel, or a Mac
notebook which is now all Intel may work best, I already checked the
ubuntu notebook compatibility but difficult to make heads or tails out
of it? Most research on this subject that proved of any value was
googled. Anybody got any other suggestions?
