the visual effects (aka Compiz Fusion) works perfectly with ati. You may
not have installed your video driver?

to check if your video driver is installed and working properly,
1) open the terminal and type "fglrxinfo" (w/o quotes)
if it says something like this "
		display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon Xpress Series
		OpenGL version string: 2.0.6473 (8.37.6)
then your driver is installed and you may need to run aticonfig

2) click System -> Adminstration -> restricted drivers manager. If it
tells you that there are no restricted drivers for your system (or
something to that affect), then go to ati's site, download their driver,
install it, then run ati config and reboot
