I've seen several ppl asking for ways to recover delete files or partitions.
I've used, with success, a program that runs on both Windows and Linux. I've recovered more the 15GiBs of data of a "dead" disk that contained 20GiBs of data,
and a friend of mine used it once on a memory card.
Its composed by two apps:
* photorec;
* foremost.

Not sure of the license but the source code is available.
Maybe some one would be interested in maintaining it on Ubuntu Universe, if the license permits it.

The only limitation that I've seen, is that it only recovers files, but not there names, or paths, but none the less, its better then losing everything.
