Samba - slow copies

Thanks. I have indeed considered using NFS, but tend to keep to Samba
because I also have dual boot machines with Windoze on them.

However, I think that I found the problem; installing the standard
kernal rather than the generic (I keep having problems with the
generic/geriatric kernal) reinstalling samba & setting the the directory
that I was copying to with a proper samba share configuration seems to
have done the trick.  I've a few days off, so I'll do a test with NFS as
well tomorrow.
