I've used the "alternate" CDs for both Ubuntu and Xubuntu with great 
success.

It allows me more flexibility in partitioning my hard drives than the 
regular Ubuntu CD.
Also, it has a nice interface to setting up the LVM (Logical Volume 
Manager).
