intel graphics card questions

I presume you're using Ubuntu 7.10 on this computer?

Intel 965 works great, with one caveat: you either get a 3D desktop or
accelerated video playback.  The Ubuntu developers made a choice for the
latter and disabled compiz for this video chipset.

If you want to get Compiz, you'll have to re-enable compiz by typing
this in a terminal window:

  echo SKIP_CHECKS=yes > ~/.config/compiz/compiz-manager

Now you can use System -> Preferences -> Appearance to enable Desktop
Effects.

To get video playback you'll have to run gstreamer-properties and
select X Window System (no Xv) as the video output plugin.

My laptop has a mobile version of this chip and I use compiz on it
daily:
