Youtube doesn't want to work

Hello folks,

It would be of great help if you could kindly let me know why youtube
doesn't wanna work on my machine.

I have ubuntu 7.10 and also installed the missing plugins once prompted. I
hear only audio and after a while firefox crashes.

applies to all other streaming sites incl - stage6, dailymotion, metacafe
etc etc ..
